Taking A Closer Look At Wellness - Page 3

Another tip is to try not to eat (especially larger meals) late at night or prior to going to sleep. The night and early morning hours physiologically are not the digestive hours of one's digestive system, but rather the time when your body is trying to absorb and assimilate (previously digested) nutrients. Eating late may produce incomplete digestion resulting in intestinal putrefaction (proteins), as well as promote fat storage.

An appropriate sleep environment is recommended. Be fully relaxed in a peaceful and comfortable setting. It is not advisable to bring your work to bed (computers, papers, etc.). Make the bedroom a sanctuary for rest. Consider a mid-afternoon nap (also a brisk after lunch stroll). Modern studies are pointing to the effectiveness of a fifteen-minute "power nap" (ideally in the early afternoon).

Another crucial area of health to understand is the function of (or decreased function of) your nervous system. The nervous system is comprised of the brain and its extension, the spinal cord (the central nervous system), and all the other nerve branches throughout the entire body (the peripheral nervous system). The nervous system is the "master controller" of your body, responsible for every function carried out. It controls every cell, every tissue, every organ, every gland, hormone, chemical, etc.- every system and process! The nervous system even has direct ties to your immune system! The brain and body communicate with each other, to carry out all necessary human activity, via the nervous system. Similar to the clarity of a phone line determining the accuracy of the message being transmitted, the degree of interference along your nervous system is pinnacle in determining if proper messages and unaltered communication will take place in your body. This will determine if proper function, and thereby health will result.

The body possesses the inherent ability to regulate itself (INNATE intelligence discussed earlier), and in desiring well-being for itself the body will maintain balance and health. For this reason, it is understood within a naturalistic paradigm that, "the power that made the body, heals the body", and that "health comes from above down, inside out". Once again, all disease relates to the body not being able to adapt to its environment. If communication between nerves is not interfered with, then proper function and thereby health will result. It is the job of a chiropractor to locate areas where the nervous system may be compromised. While the primary focus of a chiropractor is on the spinal column, the implications are very much broad-bodied. The spinal column houses the spinal cord, and therefore spinal misalignments, even subtle, can have profound effects upon the transmission of nerve impulses along the residing cord.

A chiropractor will locate the areas of neurological compromise, termed the "vertebral subluxation complex", or in short "subluxation", then deliver a specific, directed, intelligent force into the body, called an "adjustment", in attempt to reduce or remove that nerve stress. It is the chiropractor who is best suited (and actually the only qualified) to promote and provide true health. This is because the chiropractor has this accurate understanding of health, and can give complete care, particularly for the function of the nervous system. For optimal health, one must have a nervous system that is functioning optimally. Therefore, one should visit a chiropractor regularly.

The last aspect of health is attitude. Your attitude has everything to do with how healthy you are. You should always strive to be positive, even in life's most trying times. Focus on the good in people and in circumstances. Rid yourself of the people, places, and situations that have negative influence. Adopt an attitude of loving, giving, and serving. Try to instill in yourself bold, strong qualities like integrity, respect, generosity, honor, honesty, etc. Be lawful, ethical, and moral. Act out of love, not fear.

Meditation and relaxation work wonders for your attitude. An effective means to improve your attitude is to reflect inward. This will allow you to closely see who you are and in what you could improve. In order to grow towards positivity, become more spiritual. Embark on a spiritual quest! Grow to know God. Building your spirituality will likely do more for you and your health than anything else! Prayer is essential.
