Why do we experience inflammation?

Inflammation is directly associated with all chronic pain and disease- from a twisted ankle to cancer. If you have pain, there is usually underlying inflammation. A variety of factors can cause inflammation such as an injury, stress, loss of sleep, sedentary living and poor diet. However, decreased joint mobility, sprains and strains, misaligned vertebrae, nerve irritation and disc problems also produce painful inflammation and are all conditions that can be helped through chiropractic care.

What’s really happening with inflammation?

Inflammation is a natural process or response of the body’s immune system, serving a beneficial role by removing harmful pathogens like bacteria and viruses. However, when inflammation becomes chronic, it can alter the structure and function of tissues which could result in conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, tendinosis and chronic pain

Yes, Chiropractic Can Help!

Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments help reduce the production of two inflammatory molecules that regulate the intensity and duration of the inflammation immune responses. This is in part due to the fact that chiropractic treatments help correct bio-mechanical imbalances that can cause underlying inflammation. Adjustments improve body alignment and bio-mechanics which also improve regulation of the immune system, including the inflammatory response.  It may sound complicated- but come talk to us- we can explain!

Treating Inflammation

What’s the first thing you do when you have swelling or pain? Reach for an Advil or Aleve? The problem is, these anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) only provide short term relief of while masking the underlying problems. Also, if taken long-term, these drugs can cause other, complex health issues. So, it’s best to seek medical attention, beginning with a chiropractic evaluation, to determine a plan to correct underlying issues or imbalances.
