Chiropractic for Stress Management? YES!

Chiropractic for Stress Management? YES!

Everyone has stress. It is a normal part of life and something that’s nearly impossible to avoid.  Poor sleep? Job? Money? Relationships? All of these factors-and many more- frequently impact our daily stress level.

When you’re experiencing stress, your body reacts in various ways. One of the most common effects of stress is muscle tension, which can affect your posture, the way you sit, stand, walk and even carry out the simplest daily activities. Over time, this strain takes a toll on your joints and muscles and can cause misalignments (subluxations) of your spine. These misalignments can then interfere with the nervous system and impair the body’s healthy functioning on many levels, including pain, decreased immune response and slow healing.

How Can Chiropractic Help

“The nervous system helps the body adapt to stress, so keeping it functioning properly by maintaining correct spinal alignment is extremely important in managing stress.” said Atlanta chiropractor Dr. Justin Fierro. “In many cases we don’t have control over the stress in our lives, but we can control what we do to help our bodies deal with those stresses.  A person with a healthy spine and nervous system function is going to be able to adapt to everyday stresses more efficiently than someone with poor spinal function and misalignments.”

This is where Chiropractic adjustments can help.  They can reduce muscle tension, calm irritated spinal nerves and improve blood circulation. These changes can even alert the brain to switch off the stress response so the body can return to a more relaxed state. At HealthQuest, we can also recommend nutritional supplementation, rehabilitative exercises, deep-tissue massage, relaxation techniques and postural changes to help patients manage stress.

While it’s impossible to completely eliminate stress, regular chiropractic care can help offset some of its effects and prevent long-term damage to the body.
